Based in the 19th arrondissement of Paris, Les Spirales is a musical improvisation project based on original works by Mié Ogura. It engages the audience in the elaboration of a multitude of sound elements, rhythms and melodies, and offers an immersion in Japanese culture, between tradition and technology, with current music and contemporary music. In 2017, as a multi-instrumentalist (flute, voice, piano, synthesizer and drums), Mié Ogura released her first solo album of original compositions. In 2018, in Paris, she accompanied herself with a looper to realize this live project “Spiral Melody- Hommage à Roland Kirk”. An experience she repeated in Tarbes in 2023.
From trio to quintet, the concept attracted other musicians and became the “Spiral Melody Project”, with 18 performances in and around the 19th arrondissement of Paris. In 2024, a quartet was formed under the name “Les Spirales”. They were joined by Aidje Tafial on drums, Mathieu Guillouët on bass and Séverine Eouzan on saxophone. The band distills an orchestral style using acoustic instruments, synthesizers, loopers and electronic effects to produce eclectic music with multiple influences: jazz, world music, pop, progressive rock, classical and contemporary music. Such is Mié Ogura's background in the cosmopolitan world of Paris's 19th arrondissement.
Since 2017, the “Les Spirales” project, whose ambition is to create links between communities and cultures, has been inviting a young audience to improvise: it's called “Mélodie en Spirale”, a musical awareness program aimed at elementary school pupils in Paris. Whether solo, duo, trio or quartet, or even with guest musicians, “Les Spirales” has a strong identity...
